OFF TO STATE!

Last Thursday, the varsity swim team braved snow and wind to compete in the KHSAA regional swim meet. On the boy’s side, several strong performances brought the team to an impressive 3rd place finish. Highlights include Alex Brehm in the 100 Fly (1st place), Grayson Schroering and Alex Blom in the 200 IM (2nd and 3rd place, respectively), Simon Buckner in the 500 Free (8th place), Zachariah Nouri in the 50 Free (8th place), and Alex Brehm, Grason Schroering, and Alex Blom in the 100 Breast (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively). Relays were also very successful, especially the 200 Free Relay (2nd: Grayson Schroering, Alex Blom, Simon Buckner, and Alex Brehm) and 200 Medley Relay (1st: Alex Blom, Grayson Schroering, Alex Brehm, and Zachariah Nouri). In the consolation heat, Simon Buckner placed 1st in the 200 Free, Rudy Vogt placed 4th in the 100 Fly, and Ilya Verekham placed 14th in the 100 Back.

The girls performed equally well, earning second place and a trophy. Scoring heat included Isabelle Carrico in the 200 Free (3rd), Kaylee Wheeler in the 50 Free (3rd), Krista Wheeler in the 100 Fly (3rd), Krista Wheeler and Isabelle Carrico in the 100 Back (1st and 3rd, respectively), and Kaylee Wheeler in the 100 Breast (1st). Relays were excellent across the board, especially the 200 Medley (2nd: Krista Wheeler, Kaylee Wheeler, Meredith Schulten, and Isabelle Carrico), 400 Free (2nd: Krista Wheeler, Isabelle Carrico, Meredith Schulten, and Kaylee Wheeler), and 200 Free (8th: Sally Brehm, Anne Prince, Elise Burch, and Sophia Baser). In the consolation finals, Meredith Schulten placed 1st in the 200 Free, Sophia Baser placed 4th in the 200 IM, Elise Burch and Sally Brehm placed 5th and 6th in the 100 Fly, Meredith Schulten and Elise Burch placed 1st and 4th in the 100 Free, and Sophia Baser and Sally Brehm placed 4th and 7th in the 100 Back.

Last but not least, intrepid diver Reese Ragland earned a 3rd-place finish to secure a spot in the state meet. We appreciate the fact that our diving team not only exists but also thrives. Thanks for representing, Reese!

Special congratulations to Alex Blom, Grayson Schroering, Alex Brehm, Krista Wheeler, and Kaylee Wheeler for qualifying for the All-A Regional Team! Additionally, Krista Wheeler broke the regional record in the 100 Back by .18 seconds-- good job, Krista!

The swim and dive team returns to U of L on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to compete in the Kentucky state meet.
